TAKACS STRING QUARTET WRAPS UP THE SIX-PART BEETHOVEN SERIES AT PRINCETON UNIVERSITY CONCERTS
One of the most anticipated and popular of Princeton University Concerts’ offerings this season has been the Complete Beethoven String Quartet Cycle, performed by the legendary Takács String Quartet over a series of six concerts. Having started the cycle this past November and January with four sold-out concerts, the group returns to Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall on Wednesday, March 15 and Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 8pm for the last two programs in the cycle.
Both concerts have quickly sold out. However, more seats have been made available for the March 15th performance. While the concert on the 15th was originally planned to have “Beethoven Up Close” seating with audience downstairs and onstage only, balcony seating will now be available as well, and the stage seats have been eliminated. There is no reserved seating for this concert. Patrons who had expected to sit downstairs are asked to arrive early to choose their seat; the doors will open at 7:30PM.
Supplementary Special Events: Adult School Class, Pre/Post Concert Talks, Closing Reception
In celebration of this special mini-series, Princeton University Concerts is offering several special events around the concerts. Tuesday, March 14 at 7PM in Taplin Auditorium at Fine Hall will culminate the three-part Exploring the Beethoven String Quartets in collaboration with the Princeton Adult School, taught by Emeritus Professor Scott Burnham and first violinist of the Takács Quartet, Edward Dusinberre. Admission to the final class can still be purchased through the Princeton Adult School. In addition, all ticketholders can hear Professor Burnham illuminate the programs in a post-concert talk-back after the concert on Wednesday, March 15, and in a pre-concert talk before the concert on Thursday, March 16. Following this last concert, everyone is invited to the Richardson Lounge for a reception marking the conclusion of the 2016-17 Beethoven Cycle.
